Under-fire Gio van Bronckhorst is hoping he’ll be spared the sack at Ibrox having been left to pick up the tab of stopping 10-in-a-row.
Record Sport revealed this morning that Dutch sources close to the beleaguered Rangers boss believe he still has the support of chairman Douglas Park. The Light Blues board are said to sympathetic to his plight having drastically cut back the budget they previously gave to Steven Gerrard to halt Celtic’s bid for a record run of titles.
But Gavin MacLeod, Renfrew , has warned another era of Parkhead domination could be the price to pay if Gers don’t bin Van Bronckhorst., he said: "While the excuse that Gerrard overspent - and he did - is valid, Gio can’t get a tune out of the same players who strolled to that title. He’s had a horrendous injury (crisis) but the players who made it Seville last year look to have downed tools. Too many fans have turned so it’s his time to go. The board sticking by him only suggests they’re satisfied with second place.”
Celtic fan Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: “Another manager for the scrap heap. It’s funny, there’s no more bragging coming from Rangers fans about what they’re going to win like there was last season when on their way to the Europa League final. GVB was the best thing then but not now. It’s all over!”
John Melrose, Edinburgh, added: “After seeing the figures yesterday that show Rangers are only three points worse off than last year, it's clear that Rangers fans are spitting the dummy at how good Celtic are and blaming it on the manager. They now realise how far they are behind Celtic on the pitch as well as financially, even after a good year. They need to face the fact they are now permanently Scotland's second biggest club.”
James Brown, Glasgow, took issue with Hotline regular Chris Lowe, saying: “I see Mr Lowe is stating that Celtic have won numerous games because of pro-Celtic officials?
“If this is to be believed, Celtic don't have a better squad, manager and the grit and determination to win numerous games. The reality is that his mob are in deep turmoil and the best he can come up with is pro-Celtic officials! Has he not seen many of the scandalous VAR decisions given against the champions so far? Chris is having a laugh!”
The man himself was back to have another pop at the Hoops.
Over to you, Chris Lowe, Yoker : “Silly season has started early with news of Tony Ralston’s understudy Josip Juranovic attracting transfer bids.
“Dare I ask based on what exactly, Celtic haven’t won a game in Europe in over a calendar year. He must be worth big money for being a bit part player in Scottish football as it’s sure not anything else. Just imagine his value if he finished the top scorer in the Europa League like the right-back across the city did last year.”
The Socceroos have touched down in Qatar but one man missing is former Celt Tom Rogic.
And Andrew Lamb said: " Tom Rogic, the latest in a long line of former Celtic players who looked great in Scotland's inferior SPFL, yet can't get a game at relegation threatened West Brom. Rogic is a lazy player.”
