It's fair to say some Rangers fans would have driven Ross Wilson to Nottingham themselves after aiming their ire at the sporting director this season.
Gers boss Mick Beale will pick up the slack until the summer but rival fans reckon it won’t be long before the manager is in the firing line. Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “It seems the time for change banners will be disregarded when St Mirren visit ibrox on Saturday following Ross Wilson’s departure. However I would imagine we haven’t seen the last of them. When Celtic eand Rangers chance of silverware in the semi final they will be rapidly reintroduced with Michael Beale being the target.”
Rangers have raged this week about the disallowed goal in last week’s Old Firm defeat. But Jimmy Murray, Edinburgh, said: “I remember the late 80’s, early 90’s when Celtic fans were totally paranoid about decisions given against them. It was a pathetic time.
“They blamed everyone from the Press to the SFA. The real reason was they were managed by duds. Today Rangers are exactly the same. Everyone is conspiring against them. Everyone has got it in for them.
“Wrong. Since 2012 their club has been a shambles. Totally mismanaged and skint.”
Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: “The champions had only half a team out against Rangers and still gubbed the other mob. Beale better win the Scottish cup or he will be put on the scrap heap beside all the other numpties.”
Gers women’s coach Craig McPherson copped a six game ban for head butting Celtic boss Fran Alonso in the recent dramatic derby. But Bobby Duncan, Skelmorlie, said: “In 1994 Duncan Ferguson was ordered to serve three months in jail for headbutting an opposition player.
“In 2023 Craig McPherson is banned for 6 games for headbutting an opposition manager. One was a player the other a coach who arguably should know better, you couldn't make this up. I am not suggesting McPherson should be jailed but the sentence is too lenient.”
Lance Little in Erskine, said: "I’m dumbstruck by the excuse for a punishment handed out to the Rangers coach. If I did that in my own place of work, I'd be sacked and could face charges What kind of message or deterrent does that send out? That decision, along with the people who made it are not fit for purpose.”
Meanwhile amid all the VAR wars, Allan Docherty, Glasgow, said: “It’s amazing to see a load of managers who have called for the heads of referees now jumping to their defence. Some have more faces than the Townhead clock.”
It’s derby day in Edinburgh and Hibs boss Lee Johnston badly needs a result against the old foes. Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: “Johnson states that he wants a “whipped up” Easter Road when his side play Hearts. Never mind whips – with the way his side have been playing they’ll need handcuffs to stop the fans leaving the ground early.”
Finally, Andy Robertson took one one on the chops from a lineman this week. But Alan Flett, via email, said: “Roy Keane got it spot on with his ‘big baby’ comment about Robertson.
“Keane tells it as it is, unlike most pundits, who pussyfoot round the big issues for fear of upsetting their former clubs and teammates. Keane was no angel in his playing days but at least he could actually play the game, unlike the ‘big baby’.”
