Rangers fans will discover by February 9 whether attendance will be increased for their Europa League trip to Borussia Dortmund.
The Bundesliga giants' 80,000-capacity stadium is currently limited to just 750 spectators due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Heads of state from Germany's 16 regions held "intensive" talks on Monday over rules concerning football stadia with case rates in the country at a record high.
The mood music appears to be that a significant relaxation of restrictions is not expected imminently, but that there is a need for a unified approach nationwide.
German chancellor Olaf Scholz has revealed that heads of state have set a deadline to agree on capacity limits moving forward, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's side set to visit Signal Iduna Park for a play-off round first leg on February 17.
The February 9 decision will likely clear up whether Rangers fans have any hope of getting access to the first leg of the club's most glamorous European tie in years.
As per broadcaster Derek Rae on Twitter, Scholz said on Monday: “The heads of state governments have agreed that regarding staging of large events, a unified agreement of existing regulations is needed.
"They instruct the heads of the state & senate chancellories to agree on unified rules by 9 Feb.”
The return leg is set to take place in front of a capacity 50,000 crowd at Ibrox on February 24, with Dortmund fans allocated 2,700 tickets.
