Rangers fans all say the same thing as John Lundstram challenge 'identical' to VAR overturned Kieran Trippier red card

Rangers fans are all saying the same thing after Kieran Trippier's red card was overturned by VAR this evening.

The Newcastle right back saw red for a challenge on Manchester City 's Kevin De Bruyne. But referee Jarred Gillett rescinded the card to a yellow after referring to VAR. And the move has certainly sparked outrage amongst Rangers fans who are still riled up about Willie Collum's decision to send John Lundstram packing after 66 minutes at Easter Road for his cynical tackle on Hibs frontman Martin Boyle.

Supporters have deemed the two challenges 'almost identical', insisting that the Gers midfielder would have remained on the park, too, if the Scottish game had VAR installed in time for the start of the 2022/23 campaign. The 'opposing' decisions have added even more fuel to the fire which has saw Collum face copious amounts of backlash after Rangers were reduced to nine men in the capital after Lundstram and Morelos were sent for an early bath.

Gio van Bronckhorst's side were then punished some more when Hibs' Josh Campbell netted a late goal to make sure the points were shared in Leith. And the comparison has saw many take to social to share their frustrations.

BBC Sport journalist Gavin Wallace said: "VAR very much doing its job in England today. Trippier’s challenge downgraded to a yellow. It more or less identical to Lundstram’s challenge. Hope those that need to, are taking note! #VAR

A supporter's message read: "Well Well Well. Trippier challenge changed to a yellow card after watch VAR. Exactly the same challenge that Lundstram made yesterday."

Another said: "Trippier making a Lundstram-esque tackle and getting his red overturned. WE NEED VAR"

But, luckily, fans won't have to worry about situation like these in Scotland's top flight for much longer. The Premiership is set to introduce VAR from December after 41 of the 42 SPFL clubs voted in favour of the technology back in June.
