Rangers fan 'totally overwhelmed' after surprise meeting with hero Ryan Jack

The mum of a young Rangers fan has said her boy was left delighted and 'totally overwhelmed' after meeting his footballing hero.

Daven Milne was picked out of a crowd of 50,000 by Ryan Jack at the end of the team's win against Braga in the Europa League back in April.

The 12-year-old from Newton Mearns had previously been diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called pleomorphic undifferentiated primitive sarcoma. His mother Tracy had spotted a lump on his neck after his second birthday in January 2012, and to his family's surprise, he has now celebrated 10 years in remission and enjoys his season ticket at Ibrox.

The Rangers player, completely unaware of Daven’s previous cancer battle, selected the youngster out of the crowd at the end of the quarter-final tie.

After the Daily Record reached out, the footballer arranged a meet and greet so that the boy could have his jumper signed.

The pair finally met up in Bishopton on Thursday night, which was a complete surprise to Daven.

Daven’s mother Tracy told the Record: “Daven was absolutely delighted, he was totally overwhelmed.

“We didn’t tell him where he was going. We just picked him up from football training and told him his dad was going to meet somebody.

“He had absolutely no idea. It was a brilliant evening, Jack spent an hour and a half with Daven and his brother Rory which was amazing.”

After 25 weeks of chemotherapy - and 29 blasts of proton therapy, Daven made a miracle recovery.
