Rangers fan knocked Celtic supporter unconscious with one punch at Scottish cup semi-final

A Rangers fan knocked a brazen Celtic supporter unconscious for four minutes with one punch. Dexter Morrison, 23, attacked Kielan Boyce at Hampden Park before last season’s Scottish cup semi-final on April 17 2022.

The Gers faced rivals Celtic in a match that would later be won by the Ibrox side in extra time. Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that Mr Boyce approached and shouted at Rangers fans.

He said: “Fucking come on then, let’s f***ing go, here I f***ing am.” Mr Boyce also gestured his fist looking for a fight to start. He then ran at a group of Rangers fans which sparked a fight.

Prosecutor John Bedford said: “Mr Boyce began to back off from the other Rangers fans.

“Morrison broke forward and punched Me Boyce once to the head.

“This punch rendered Mr Boyce unconscious causing him to immediately fall to the ground.”

Morrison then fled the scene, avoiding the police. Officers noted that Mr Boyce was “unconscious for at least three to four minutes.”

He also had a wound above his right eyebrow and left ear which was bleeding as well as a cut to his eyelid. Mr Boyce was taken to hospital where he was found to have suffered a total of nine injuries.

This included wounds to his head and eyes. He also sustained a fractured eye socket and internal head injuries.

Morrison, of the city's Sandyhills, went to a police station on April 29 where he was noted to have a wound to his hand.

He pled guilty today to assaulting Mr Boyce to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Sentence and consideration of a football banning order was deferred until July by Sheriff Tom Hughes.
