Rangers fan group hints protests will continue after St Johnstone walkout

The Union Bears have warned Rangers that protests will continue until 'there is real change for our club'.

Yesterday saw the ultras group stage a walkout on 55 minutes during Rangers 3-1 victory over St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership.

They carried out the move in protest of the club's board and ownership amid their dismal domestic form which has seen them fall 15 points behind arch-rivals Celtic.

A number of fans could be seen vacating their seats in the Copland Front, having displayed three separate banners during the game which saw a much-needed three points secured by Philippe Clement and his players.

Audible boos could be heard from other sections of Ibrox as the protest was carried out. Others within different parts of the ground left too, however, the majority remained seated for the rest of the match.

It seems the Union Bears are undeterred by the lack of support for their protest, as they hinted more action will soon follow.

A short statement from the group read: “Thank you to every Rangers fan who participated in the protest actions today.

“We will continue until there is real change for our club.”

Clement was understandably coy when asked about the situation post-match, as the Belgian called for unity among the fan base.

“I want everybody to be united," he commented. "Simple.

"You can see it as a positive that still a lot of people are behind everything. But I want to have everybody united.

“That's what I wanted last year when I came in and it was also totally not the case at the moment.

“But it has to do with performance and that's normal.

“We want consistency, I want consistency, and fans want consistency to get better results.

“And in that way, we have consistency in the home games. We now have 31 points out of 33, I think.

“We have consistency in our European season, but we didn't have consistency away at home. So, those are things to work on with all the squad.

“I’m focused on getting the results and I know also out of my experience here, if we play well, if we get the results, that the fans are always behind the team. But I understand the frustration.”
