Rangers Europa League success highlighted as rankings system puts Light Blues above Real Madrid and PSG

Rangers have been ranked above the likes of French and Spanish giants Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain as they climb an important European rankings chart.

Long gone are the days of embarrasing defeats to Progres Niederkorn, with the Light Blues now a force to contend with in European competition. Champions League qualifiers await them this summer after they swept aside Borussia Dortmund, Braga, RB Leipzig and more prior to a heartbreaking Europa League final loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in May.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men couldn't bring the trophy home to Scotland but their ability to go all the way means only Ajax have raked in more coefficient than Rangers since 2018/19. Success on the continent over the last few years, largely under the guidance of former boss Steven Gerrard, has contributed heavily to more European spots opening up for Scottish clubs. Swiss Football Data have backed this up with eye-popping data.

Taking home an outstanding 16.825 coefficient points for the country, Rangers sit behind the Dutch side who are top of the pile on 18.600.

It puts them ahead of English Premier League champions Manchester City (16.571), Paris Saint-Germain (16.167), Bayern Munich (16.071) and Real Madrid (13.714), plus others.

Celtic also squeeze into the top 20 in 19th place after they have also secured passage to the Europa League and Europa Conference League knockout rounds in recent terms.

Such success won't get van Bronckhorst and his men into the Champions League group stage automatically though, with their Glasgow rivals taking that berth after winning the Premiership in May.
