Rangers discover Europa League group stage opponents

Rangers have discovered their Europa League group stage opponents.

Michael Beale's side will compete in the 2023/24 tournament having dropped out of Champions League qualifying.

The Ibrox club will come up against Real Betis, Sparta Prague, and Aris Limassol.

The draw took place this afternoon at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

Rangers will be Scotland's sole representative in UEFA's secondary club competition this season.

It comes after Aberdeen missed the chance to join them after their 5-3 defeat to BK Hacken. Barry Robson's side will instead play in the Europa Conference League.

The final of this season's tournament will be played at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

And while that may seem like a long way away right now for Rangers, given their previous exploits on this stage, it's got to be the long-term ambition.

Just two seasons ago, Giovanni van Bronckhorst led the Ibrox side to the Europa League final in Seville. They cruelly lost on penalties, however, the memories of that cup run still live with fans to this day and they will be hoping for a repeat this term.

More to follow.
