Rangers delusion is like a Jim Carrey film and Celtic fans can smell fake title boast fear - Hotline

It's supermarket sweep time in Scottish football transfer market and Rangers and Celtic fans reckon their rivals are off their trollies with some of the signings. Parkhead punters have been stung by suggestions they are splashing the cash while light blue legions are in the bargain aisle.

Arrin Geddes, Irvine, said: “John Bruce seems to be getting upset about Celtic’s financial muscle, eclipsing every other team bar none. But Celtic are in the position to spend because of a sound business model. Solid finances and clever player trading go a long way.” John Melrose, Edinburgh, said: “John Bruce’s fake enthusiasm on the Hotline every day is fooling nobody but himself. They have lost their best player for peanuts and face the other two running down their contracts. They were totally outclassed the other night by a Sunderland team who finished fifth in League One last season.”

Ciaran Mallon, Belfast, said: “I had to laugh at the dumb and dumbers on the Hotline criticising Celtic for spending big to secure the players that helped us win the league last year. The fact is this team gave their lot a head start before overtaking them at the top of the league by taking them to school at Parkhead in February and all but winning the league at Ibrox in early April.”

Patrick Cunningham, Denny, said: “So according to the deluded Rangers fans Celtic have wasted 'tens of millions' on buying previous loan players. Didn't we just buy players that helped us win the league and cup double? We won't mention the waste of millions in wages for Defoe and Ramsey who won them what again? Oh that's right, they reached the worst Europa League Final in living memory.”

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, Fife, said: “There must be something in the water in West Sussex that makes the drinkers delusional. George Wilson stated Rangers were the better and stronger team at the end of the season. He should have a trip up to Govan and check the trophy room out at Ibrox. One trophy and a shelf load of second prizes.”

But John Bruce hit back and said: “I seemed to have touched a raw nerve with Celtic fans by alluding to their manager trying to buy the league – again.

Meanwhile, Gio van Bronckhorst is building a new team, bringing in young talent for the future, all without spending tens of millions of pounds. Our manager has chosen wisdom over waste.”

Kenneth Hutton , via email, said: “Good to see that the green tinted glasses are turning to green with envy. Glasgow Rangers say bring it on.”

Gers fans reckon Celtic got gazumped for the likes of Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo and Jimmy Strangers, Tranent, said: “Most of the players who chose to sign for Celtic instead of Rangers spent all their time warming the Celtic spectators bench.

“Scott Allan and Derek Riordan spring to mind, whose careers stalled after signing for Celtic.Tom Lawrence obviously did his homework on both teams before signing for Rangers.”

Meanwhile, alarm bells are ringing again in Ayrshire, as Jim McClean, Rothesay, said: “Killie are not any better than last season, They are still just a Championship team. There was not one shot on target in the second half against Partick Thistle. They will not stay up on displays like this and I fear the worst for survival.”
