Cyriel Dessers sealed a big-money move to Rangers to make it six signings of the summer for manager Michael Beale.
At Celtic, Brendan Rodgers has secured Japanese pair Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda on new four-year contracts. More deals will happen and, as they do, the Wimbledon-style slugging of insults across the net in Glasgow will also continue.
Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “Rangers continue to dominate the back pages as they add new signings. Great work from Beale as he builds up for the new season. Meanwhile, turbulence at Celtic Park goes on with players wanting out.” Joe Sneddon emailed to say: “Again Rangers leave Celtic miles behind. Whilst Celtic with millions search the bargain bucket for signings to win in Scotland, Rangers are already planning their assault on all sides including Europe.”
But Henry Moffat, Stirling, retorted: “You can understand Rangers fans’ confidence this season, fresh from their rivals beating them in every game apart from one where they gave 50 per cent effort at best and earning the permanent embarrassment across the world of being the worst-ever team in its most famous tournament. And losing two players they valued at £50m for nowt! How can they fail?”
William Hutchison, Aberdeen, had a message for a fellow Hotline contributor as he said: “I think that Dr Pender needs to see a real doc or ask for a refund on his medical degree thinking Kyogo would be gone within a year. Kyogo already says he’s happy and wants to win more trophies as money doesn’t matter to him. He will see out his four year deal and Maeda also signed. Things are just getting better and better at Celtic.”
But David Bryce, Troon, said: “I am totally underwhelmed in relation to Celtics transfer dealings. I think Rodgers has been given a raw deal.”
John Robertson, South Queensferry, said: “Would somebody put the Celtic fans straight. Rodgers is not and never was a top manager. Sacked by Liverpool and Leicester causing Leicester to be relegated. No competition in Scotland with Rangers in turmoil. He will be found out this time because Rangers are no longer in a mess.”
Across the M8, Hearts and Hibs fans are also having a go. Hibs signed Dylan Leviit this week and Greg Livie, Gracemount, said: “Just seen Hearts have lost out once more on a target to our city rivals. Absolutely devastated and confused at the situation going on with the club,
“I also recall Jamie MacLaren and Kevin Nisbet also turning down Hearts for our city rivals. I know it’s a bit early but I want Steven Naismith gone. Already it is quite clear his lack of management skills and experience is the prime factor in these players joining Hibernian, who are going to be a force to be afraid of next season. I am dreading the first derby of the season.”
But Davy Cook, Edinburgh, replied: “Hearts are being patient in the transfer market just like fishermen waiting on the big catch at the end, not like the wee team in Edinburgh snapping up all the small fry just to keep the fans on their side. Roll on the first derby.”
On a serious topic, Neil Renton, Leith, said: “All the best to Hibs striker Harry McKirdy after he was diagnosed with a heart condition. Fingers crossed for him making a full recovery and playing for the Easter Road side once again.”
Finally, a bit of much-needed humour from Chris Dyer, Blackburn, who thinks he has found a way to get into all of the major gigs. He said: “I think I will join that Just Stop Oil group because they always get tickets for the big sporting events.”
