Rangers 'could' move for Barcelona's Pablo Torre after 'missing out' on transfer last year

Rangers could rekindle their interest in Pablo Torre this summer, according to a report.

The Light Blues are said to have missed out on the capture of the youngster to Barcelona who shelled out €5million to land him from Racing Santander. His season at the La Liga giants hasn't gone as well as hoped but the club holds high hopes for him in the future with Xavi believed to be willing to sanction a loan move away from the Nou Camp next year.

Mundo Deportivo report that Rangers could look to land the playmaker if the option to make a deal happen is available. The report states Xavi recognises the Spaniard as the 'best player in the squad at set pieces' but also reports that he has not had clear opportunities to show of his talent and a temporary move could be the best solution in order to not halt his progress.

To date, the 20-year-old has made eight top team appearances for Barcelona this campaign including three Champions League outings. His one goal for the club came in the same competition against Viktoria Plzen. He's also featured three times in La Liga with his other two outings coming in the Spanish domestic cup.

Rangers landed Malik Tillman on loan from Bayern Munich last season and he has been a real shining light in the Ibrox side. The midfielder is yet to confirm if he will remain at the club next season after his loan spell with Thomas Tuchel now in charge at the club.

But former Rangers defender Alan Hutton says if the deal can be done, it is a must. He said: "Definitely. I think they are talking around £5million.

“The talent is there for everyone to see and I think the one thing we need to remember is that he is only a young boy, so there is going to be inconsistencies with his performances, that is just normal at that age.

“I think because everybody has seen what he is capable of you just expect it week in, week out. There is room for improvement there so I think he fits the mould of Michael Beale and what he wants the team to look like moving forward.

“I think if they could get him for that price I think it would be a steal really.“

Michael Beale has already stated a desire to bring in at least FIVE new faces this summer with a host of departures expected between out of contract players and fringe men. The list includes Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent who are yet to decide on their futures either way.
