Rangers & Celtic 'to make offers' for new Scotland star

Rangers and Celtic are set to battle it out for new Scotland star Tommy Conway, according to a report.

The Daily Record states that offers will be made by both of Glasgow's big two after Euro 2024.

That is if it becomes clear that the 21-year-old will run down the final 12 months of his contract at Bristol City.

Conway was last week called into the senior national team squad by Steve Clarke to replace the injured Lyndon Dykes.

He enjoyed a fruitful season in the English Championship last season at Ashton Gate, however, talks over a contract extension have stalled.

And this could see both Rangers and Celtic - who are monitoring the player's situation very closely - swoop on a pre-contract in January as he would enter the final six months of his deal.

The report says either Scottish Premiership side would be capable of signing Conway for a cross-border compensation fee of around £300,000.

This would be a blow to Bristol City as they are said to have hopes of selling their star man for seven figures.

That could still come to pass if the forward enjoys a productive Euros in Germany with Scotland, meaning the club could cash in upon his return rather than letting his deal run down.

Unique Sports Group represents Conway. They have conducted deals in the past that have seen cross-border switches go through.

These include Calvin Bassey to Rangers from Leicester City in the summer of 2020.

Rangers famously upset Charlton when Joe Aribo arrived for a similar fee a year earlier under Steven Gerrard.

Meanwhile, Scott McKenna being linked with a move to Celtic has become as much of a summer tradition in Scotland in the past few years as fans of the Parkhead club descending on Trongate in their tens of thousands to celebrate a Premiership victory.

So it has not really been a huge surprise to see stories tipping the centre-back, whose contract with Nottingham Forest expires at the end of the month, to join the Glasgow giants in the close season resurface in recent weeks.
