Rangers captain James Tavernier agrees new Ibrox deal

Rangers captain James Tavernier agrees new Ibrox deal

RANGERS captain James Tavernier has agreed a new contract to extend his stay at Ibrox.

The right-back has been a hugely influential figure on and off the park since moving from Wigan Athletic in 2015.

And he could now finish his career in Glasgow after finalising a long-term contract that sees him commit to Rangers once again.

Tavernier's current deal was due to run until 2024 but a two-year extension has now been agreed as boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst ties down one of his key players.

The fresh terms will take Tavernier beyond a decade of service at Ibrox as he becomes of one the most important figures in the recent history of Rangers.

Tavernier skippered his side to a historic 55th league title under the guidance of Steven Gerrard and was agonisingly close to lifting the Europa League last term as Rangers lost to Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville.

The Englishman got his hands on the Scottish Cup silverware at Hampden just days later and he will now lead the Light Blues into the new Premiership campaign and their upcoming crack at the Champions League.
