Brendan Rodgers was the name on everyone's lips as the former Celtic boss considers a return to the club he left in the lurch for Leicester. Or simply took the opportunity to ply his trade in a stronger league for a lot more money, as most people would do.
Yes, opinion remains divided on the seemingly imminent return of the Northern Irishman but Paul Price, Belfast, has no doubts that Rodgers is the best man for the job. He said: "Now that it looks like Brendan Rodgers - which I welcome - is going to be our new boss, I would urge all our supporters to back him."
But Gordon Ferguson, Kilwinning, said: "If Rangers ever thought of reappointing Steven Gerrard I would be so disappointed. He chose to leave, like Brendan Rodgers. They made their choices and there is no way back. If Leicester were still in EPL would Brendan even answer Dermot's call? I think not. Don’t disrespect your fans, Mr Desmond."
John Scott, Grassmoor, emailed: "This has got to be driving many Celtic fans crazy! It's like a partner walking out on you for someone younger and better looking. Then a few years later not you, but senior members of the family, persuade them to come back to you. You'll grudgingly accept them back but deep down you'll not trust them to walk out again when someone over the fence whispers in their ear."
Neil Renton, Edinburgh, emailed: "I fully understand why Brendan Rodgers would return to Celtic. He’s looking to take a sabbatical from football - with the resources at their disposal and with a weak Rangers team, managing the Parkhead side is like a holiday."
John Robertson, South Queensferry added: "Funny Brendan Rodgers saying he was having a year off. Given what Leicester achieved in the last year it would appear he already had a year off!"
Andrew Adams. Kirkcaldy, doesn't think so. He said: "Let's hope Brendan is next Celtic manager, hopefully he won't have as easy a ride as last time. If Celtic want to go backwards by all means do it, but it may end in tears...hopefully!"
James Forsyth, Bellshill, said: "Looks like Brendan's going back to Celtic after he couldn't wait to do a runner last time. Also Stevie G may head for Saudi when Glasgow was too far away from his family. Scottish football is just a means to an end for these people."
Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: "With it increasingly looking like Brendan Rodgers coming back and the possibility of Scott Brown as his assistant I think that’s the perfect appointment. Some fans won’t be happy because he left before but Ange Postecoglou has done the same thing and he’s a hero? Celtic will always be a stepping stone for players and managers to go to better leagues. It’s something we have to accept."
Jimmy Murray, Edinburgh, said: "Surely if Celtic, with no manager, are ready to sign a Norwegian midfielder for £2 million then it shows Peter Lawwell is still in charge of transfers. In other words everything is back to normal at Parkhead. What a joke."
Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, didn't talk about Rodgers. He still reckons Rangers are getting a raw deal by being labelled the worst ever Champions League side after their catastrophic campaign, saying: "Celtic fans' notion about the worst Champions League record is a bit of a myth as they were completely out of Europe after four games, where Rangers could still mathematically still be in Europe up until the the final whistle of their last game of the group.
Rangers took more coefficient points than Celtic from the campaign and were mathematically involved in Europe two games longer yet we have Celtic fans bragging about a campaign where they were out before Rangers. History may record facts but the facts turn Celtic fans gloating onto themselves as in any cup competition a team who lasts longer can’t be considered worse than a team which went out earlier."
