Rangers 'business sense' questioned by Andy Walker as he issues Celtic transfer policy reminder

Andy Walker has questioned the 'business sense' behind Rangers' decision to keep Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent with their contracts in the final year.

The Light Blues are yet to come to any agreement with the duo over extending current terms with both free to speak to interested parties come January and pen pre-contract and move on from the club - a similar scenario that Giovanni van Bronckhorst captured John Souttar from Hearts.

Kent has struggled to capture his best form for Rangers so far this season while Morelos has had fitness and disciplinary issues in the early part of the campaign. Both have been previously linked with moves away from Ibrox during their time at the club with Leeds United holding a strong interest in the former Liverpool winger while Lille had been strongly linked with the Colombian striker. Walker can't understand the position Rangers have taken over the duo as he pointed to the Celtic model of cashing in while stock is high with the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Victor Wanyama, Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele all used as prime examples.

When quizzed on Morelos' future on The Go Radio Football Show, Walker said: "From the club's point of view, I'm surprised they let him run his contract down into the last year. He can sign for another club from January 1, and it doesn't make sense from a business point of view.

"He still has the option of staying on and signing an extension, and I know he's scored goals but there are business decisions to be done on every player. Especially when they are scoring goals in Europe, as he was doing. To let him go into the last year just doesn't make sense, and it's the same for Ryan Kent.

"It doesn't make business sense. I know with Champions League money you can maybe afford to run with one of them, but there always has to be a time when you cash in on players. You are on the doorstep of the richest league on the planet and you can't afford to turn down some of the money you can generate for players.

"Celtic have cashed in on Virgil van Dijk, (Victor) Wanyama, Kieran Tierney, Moussa Dembele - you get them in for a small fee and sell them on. Then you replace it with the likes of Hatate and O'Riley, you keep replacing the squad."
