Rangers' boardroom puzzle: Offord 'unlikely' to succeed Bennett as chairman

Malcolm Offord's prospects of becoming the next chairman of Rangers appear dim as his potential appointment to Ibrox has hit a snag.

Last month, it was indicated that Offord was a frontrunner to succeed John Bennett as chairman.

However, the Rangers Review now report that this is unlikely to materialise, with interim chairman John Gilligan actively seeking a suitable candidate for the boardroom.

Offord, who holds the title of Lord Offord of Garvel in the House of Lords and previously served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department of Business and Trade, was initially seen as the ideal individual for the role, which has been vacant since Bennett stepped down in mid-September.

Nonetheless, Rangers are still on the lookout for a chairman ahead of their Annual General Meeting, scheduled to take place at the Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow this Thursday (December 5).

An announcement is anticipated in the coming weeks, with sources expressing optimism that a high-caliber individual will step into the position.
