Rangers board still to discuss Van Bronckhorst future as Barry Ferguson demands he’s put out his misery

Barry Ferguson has called on Rangers to put Giovanni van Bronckhorst out his misery – one way or the other. Record Sport revealed the under-fire boss had flown back to the Netherlands without talks with the board over his future.

On top of that, it’s understood Ibrox powerbrokers still haven’t even met to discuss the manager’s situation – despite reports to the contrary. And van Bronckhorst’s former Rangers team-mate wants clarity for the club, the fans and the manager’s sakes.

Ferguson said: “The place is crying out for answers and a bit of clarity. The situation will only get worse until a decision is made, one way or the other. If Rangers think they can bring in someone who will instantly improve the situation during the World Cup break then they have to get on with it. Because the worst thing they can do right now is nothing at all.”

Meanwhile, Kjetil Knutsen has issued a defiant response to reports linking him away from Bodo/Glimt as a potential van Bronckhorst successor.

The highly-rated coach is just one of the names being floated as a potential option should the Dutchman be dislodged from the Ibrox helm.

But the Norwegian admits he would not abandon Bodo/Glimt during the season and defiantly said: “Firstly, I have Morten Wivestad as my agent. I have been clear that now I stand with my head in a pressure cooker, and things that are outside Bodo/Glimt I am completely uninterested in.

“I do not want any enquiries, and I do not answer any telephone calls. I only have 100 per cent focus on Bodo/Glimt.”

The coach previously took charge against Celtic in the Europa Conference League last season, which the Norwegians won by knocking the Hoops out of Europe’s third tier.

The 54-year-old also dismissed an approach from Aberdeen after Stephen Glass was let go and before new boss Jim Goodwin arrived.
