Rangers back retro shirt tribute in memory of Jimmy Bell

Rangers fans will honour Jimmy Bell with a retro shirt day at Ibrox on Sunday.

As the Light Blues welcome Aberdeen to Ibrox, a fans' group has organised a special initiative as a remembrance gesture for the club's former kitman.

Bell died at the age of 69 last year, after four decades at Ibrox.

And prominent fans group, the Broomloan Collective, have organised for Rangers fans to wear tops from Bell's time at the club, which spanned back to 1986.

All funds raised on Sunday will go to charity.

A statement from the group read: "To mark the anniversary of his passing, Broomloan Collective is organising a 'Retro Shirt Day' in memory of the late Jimmy Bell. Following last year's success, this tribute to our beloved kitman will be an annual event to be held in memory of Jimmy.

"A year has passed since Jimmy left us, and he still remains in our thoughts as prominent as ever. He was one of the embodied what it took to be a Ranger.

"Broomloan Collective are asking all supporters to wear a Rangers shirt from Jimmy's spells at the club for the upcoming home match at Aberdeen.

"There will also be donation buckets located around the Union Bears stall and Broomloan stand. The cash collected will be donated to the Emmie Smillie Foundation, chosen by Jimmy's family. Your generosity is greatly appreciated."

And the Ibrox club has publicly backed the event.

The club tweeted: "Rangers FC is delighted to add our backing to Sunday’s Retro Shirt Day in memory of Jimmy Bell.

"Everyone at the club looks forward to a fantastic spectacle which will be a tremendous tribute to a club legend."
