Rangers are combusting and Celtic nightmare ain't even one of their FIVE massive problems - Hotline

Celtic fans remain jubilant after their team’s victory over Rangers propelled them six points clear in the title race.

Parkhead punters hit the Hotline to laud their side, while Ibrox fans are lamenting their league situation going into Thursday’s crucial Europa League tie against Braga.

Naturally, there is still comment being made about the off-field incidents during Sunday’s game where bottles and missiles were thrown.

Paul Price, Belfast, said: “How lucky are we that Eddie Howe turned us down? Big Ange has been a godsend and even an Aussie Rangers fan I know sang his praises when he became our manager.”

Stephen Riley, Possil, added: “ Postecoglou is doing some job. I can barely believe how he has turned this around.”

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, continued: “So this apparently vastly-overrated Celtic team is on the verge of reclaiming the title after beating what I’ve been saying all season is a vastly overrated Rangers team.

“After a shaky start, we were the better team all over the pitch with more determination and hunger than them also.”

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “After witnessing Cameron Carter-Vickers’ performance, Postecoglou’s first priority must be to secure his signature on a permanent deal.

“After following Celtic for over 40 years, if there has been a better performance from a Celtic central defender in an Old Firm derby, then I haven’t seen it.”

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “It’s starting to unfold at Ibrox. The so-called easy Champions League money disappearing over the horizon. Costly Australian legal action coming their way. A dysfunctional board who are at war all the time with each other and a section of the support. Shocking player recruitment.

“In the coming weeks, they might wish they had stayed in The Sydney Cup. It might be their only chance of any silverware.”

Rangers supporters are concerned at their team’s situation and Drew Ferguson, Oban, said: “It’s crystal clear that when Rangers play against packed defences, they do not have the quality to open them up akin to the second half against Celtic. That has been their Achilles heel for years. In Europe teams tend to have a go and leave spaces for our better players to exploit.”

Lewis Fotheringham, Mount Ellen, added: “A few things need to change in terms of the structure of the team.

“Firstly, we need a good backup striker who can actually score goals as it is clear we are blunt in attack when Alfredo Morelos is not playing.

“Secondly, we need new centre backs who can actually defend because the likes of Connor Goldson are not good enough. And lastly, we need a midfielder who can dictate the game in the same way Callum McGregor does for Celtic. Ryan Jack can do this, but is always injured.”

John Steel, Castlemilk, said: “I’m starting to think that Rangers are more suited to European football.

“But when it comes to our bread and butter in the league, I think Celtic are more suited. The league is Celtic’s and all good work we've done in Europe will be ruined when Celtic go into the Champions League.”

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, added: “All Rangers efforts must now go into Thursday’s game against Braga.

“The timing of the Morelos injury could not have been worse and leaves us up against it. Moving forward Rangers must concentrate on Europe and then get to work on contracts.

“Anyone who doesn’t want to be part of it should be shown the door and a goalkeeper must be brought in. A couple of quality signings would see us back at the top.”

On the bottle throwers, Martin Leggat emailed: “Quite simply, the worst scenes in a football ground in Scotland.”

Kevin Lord, Drylaw, said: “I’ve said here before, the only way to sort out fan issues is to dock points from them next season. Close Ibrox for the remainder of this as they obviously cannot supply adequate stewarding.”

Lewis Doyle, Tipperary, said: “What about those who stood next to the moron and saw them throwing these items? I hope the football authorities hit them hard. Joe Hart was immense in dealing with this intimidation.”

Brian Wright, Bannockburn, concluded: “Rangers top priority is not the league, the cup or Europe.

“Their top priority has to be to find the mindless morons who threw objects onto the pitch more than once, which could have resulted in injury to players, and did injure a member of the Celtic staff.

“They must find these culprits and ban them from Ibrox forever. In fact, get them banned for life from attending all football games.”
