Rangers announce West Ham and Blackpool friendlies as Ibrox side set for Premier League test

Rangers have announced a friendly double header against West Ham United and Blackpool in July.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side will head south to Bloomfield Road after returning from their Portuguese training camp before welcoming David Moyes' Hammers to Ibrox.

Rangers travel abroad for warm weather preparations on July 4 and will take on EFL Championship outfit Blackpool on July 16, with West Ham up next on July 19.

A club statement said: "Rangers are pleased to confirm a further two exciting pre-season friendlies against West Ham United and Blackpool.

"Fresh from their Portugal training camp, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men will travel to take on English Championship side Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Saturday, July 16.

"Steven Davis scored a double the last time the sides met in a pre-season friendly back in 2011.

"The Blackpool match will kick-off an exciting week of preparations for Gers as they then host English Premier League side West Ham United on Tuesday, July 19.

"Managed by David Moyes, the Hammers finished seventh in the Premier League last season and reached the semi-final of the UEFA Europa League. The likes of Declan Rice, Jarrod Bowen, Saïd Benrahma and Tomas Soucek are just some of the names in their squad who could be taking to the field at Ibrox.

"The match will be just the second time Rangers and West Ham have played each other, the first coming in a 1979 Caledonian Cup Semi-Final in which Rangers were 3-2 winners."

Confirmation of these two fixtures adds to already arranged meetings with Partick Thistle, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur across the summer.
