Rangers legend Andy Goram’s funeral will take place on at Wellington Church in Glasgow on Monday, July 18, the Ibrox club have announced with a minute's silence set to be held before this weekend's pre-season friendly against Sunderland in Portugal.
The legendary Ibrox goalkeeper passed away on Saturday following a short battle with oesophageal cancer, aged 58. Goram spent seven years at Ibrox where he won 10 major honours. He also had spells at Hibs and Motherwell north of the border, had a short stint on loan at Manchester United, and was capped 43 times for Scotland.
Rangers supporters will get the chance to say farewell to the man regarded as the greatest ever goalkeeper in the club’s history. The club said in a statement: “The club can confirm Andy’s funeral will take place on Monday, 18 July at Wellington Church. The following day, representatives of Rangers will lay a wreath prior to the West Ham United friendly match, with further tributes planned for that evening to allow supporters to pay their final respects to ‘The Goalie’."
Rangers face Sunderland in the Algarve on Saturday in the first match for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side since Goram's passing. The statement added: "Rangers can confirm there will be minute’s silence ahead of Saturday’s friendly against Sunderland in memory of legendary goalkeeper Andy Goram.
"Goram made 260 appearances for Gers between 1991 and 1998. In that time, he won five league titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups. He sadly passed away on Saturday following a short battle with cancer at the age of 58."
