Rangers and RB Leipzig squad cost comparison as Germans call on over £200m of talent for Europa League semi final

It's been a long time since we have seen a Scottish club rubbing shoulders with elite sides in this stage of European competition.

The financial gap has continued to grow between the Scottish Premiership and some of the mega-rich clubs who push for the Champions League and Europa League final.

However, Rangers have the chance to pull off a major upset and reach the Seville showpiece if they can see off the financial muscle of RB Leipzig.

Domenico Tedesco has a squad bursting with expensive talent from regular runs to the upper reaches of the Bundesliga table. But how big is the gap between themselves and Rangers?

Record Sport runs the numbers of the Scottish champions and Leipzig.

Players who are not in the Europa League squad have not been included in total. So for example, Filip Helander's £3.5m fee paid to Bologna has not been included in Rangers' total.

However, players who are unable to play but remain on the UEFA squad list are included, including the likes of injured Alfredo and suspended Willi Orban.

Rangers

It was a quiet January window for Rangers with the loan signings of Amad Diallo and Aaron Ramsey grabbing the headlines. James Sands, while having an option to buy, has also initially arrived on loan from the MLS.

Ryan Kent is the most expensive player in the Rangers squad that will travel to Germany for the first leg on Thursday, with crocked Kemar Roofe in second.

RB Leipzig

That has seen plenty of players arrive from Austria and America to play a key part in their Europa League run.
