Rangers and Celtic 'set' for Police Scotland showdown talks as Scottish Cup clash throws up Premiership fixture headache

The SPFL are reportedly set to hold talks with Police Scotland over the date for the final Premiership clash between Rangers and Celtic.

The Glasgow rivals are set to meet at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final on April 29 or 30 for a place in the final against either Falkirk or Inverness. As things stand it's set to be the fifth meeting between the two this season as they will play their third league game at Parkhead on April 8 having already met in the Viaplay Cup final.

The post-split fixtures won't be drawn until April 22 at the earliest with Celtic facing Motherwell and Rangers traveling to face Aberdeen in their final game before the league splits into two. But the Daily Mail are reporting Police Scotland are concerned with the date of the Scottish Cup clash as they prefer the final league meeting between the pair to come early after the split.

Cops are set for talks with the league and are concerned the final league derby and the Hampden showdown could fall in quick succession. And while no decision has been taken yet, they are keen to find a solution to avoid back to back derby showdowns.
