Rangers ‘advance’ plans to sign Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron

Rangers are advancing plans to secure the signature of Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron, with the talented 22-year-old emerging as a key target for the Ibrox club.

Cameron’s current contract with Dundee expires at the end of the season, opening the door for a potential move during the summer transfer window.

The young playmaker, who Dundee manager Tony Docherty confirmed is wanting to keep his options open having been offered a contract extension at Dens Park, has caught the attention of several clubs, including those from abroad, thanks to his impressive performances this season.

Cameron has been a standout for the Dark Blues, particularly since teammate Luke McCowan departed for Celtic, contributing eight goals and seven assists across all competitions.

His ability to dictate play and provide attacking impetus has made him one of the most exciting prospects in Scottish football.

Should Cameron choose to join Rangers upon the expiry of his contract, Dundee would be entitled to a compensation fee under the terms of Scottish football’s regulations for players under the age of 23.

This financial consideration adds an additional layer of intrigue after Rangers’ summer window deal to bring in Connor Barron from Aberdeen ended up going to a tribunal.

There is even the possibility that Cameron could join Rangers this month, with new chief executive Patrick Stewart suggesting there were plans to "accelerate the signing of a playing that we were planning anyway".

Rangers manager Philippe Clement was asked about the rumours, but told Sky Sports, "I know the people in the club are busy to make things work and I need to wait like the fans. I'm in the same position that way.

"I will never speak about players in the Scottish league or even outside who are not playing for the club. You can only ask me questions about players who are here and that's the most important thing for me."
