Rangers ace Connor Goldson 'eyed up' by League One club

A former Celtic coach is eying up a move for Rangers defender Connor Goldson, according to a report.

Birmingham City are interested in Connor Goldson, the Scottish Sun claims.

Chris Davies - who recently left his role as Ange Postecoglou's No.2 at Tottenham Hotspur to take up the position at St Andrew's - is keen to strengthen his side's backline.

And with the aim of winning League One next term, he reportedly views Goldson as a crucial part of that puzzle.

Davies worked under Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead during the Irishman's first stint in charge. He followed him to Leicester in 2019.

Goldson has the sort of experience that Davies wants at Birmingham, having played over 300 games for the Ibrox club.

He signed for Rangers back in 2018, and was one of Steven Gerrard's first signings.

Philippe Clement has already made it clear that he wants the 31-year-old to remain as part of his plans moving forward, alongside skipper James Tavernier.

The Belgian did drop him from his starting XI in April at the tail-end of last season after some poor performances.

The centre-back then sustained a season-ending knee injury, which has ruled him out until the start of pre-season - which got underway last week.

Goldson has two years left to run on his current contract and is one of the highest earners at Ibrox.

A move for more guaranteed football could be a promising prospect for him, though, with that no longer seemingly on the table at Ibrox.

Rangers are scheduled to play Birmingham in a pre-season friendly this summer on Wednesday, July 24.

Meanwhile, Scott Wright could also be headed for England, as Sheffield Wednesday registered their interest in the winger.

The former Aberdeen player is one that Rangers are willing to move on this summer as they make room for their new signings.
