Rangers 2-2 Celtic: What the managers said

The first Glasgow Derby of the season ended in a dramatic 2-2 at Broadwood on Thursday night.

Rangers took an early lead through Kirsty Howat's glorious volley, before Katie Wilkinson fired in a second from the penalty spot.

Celtic responded minutes later, with substitute Saoirse Noonan also making no mistake from the spot. In the 87th minute, Célya Barclais completed the comeback for Elena Sadiku's side, striking low and hard into the bottom corner.

It is the first time Rangers have dropped points in an otherwise perfect start to the season. While they remain top of the SWPL table, Glasgow City are just a point behind with third-place Celtic hot on their heels - just two points off the league leaders in what is shaping up to be an intriguing title race once again.

Here's what the two managers said after the game.

Celtic manager Elena Sadiku: “It is a mentality and hunger from Celtic. The first goal they scored is offside. The second goal they scored was a penalty. It was outside the box.

“They have a style of play that is threatening but we managed that – they didn’t have too many chances in the second half.

“The subs came in and changed the game. To look that fit after that schedule, it makes me so proud and happy.

“Everybody who plays Celtic needs to expect a hunger. We always want to win and we showed that. I am gutted we didn’t win because we deserved it.”

Sadiku received a yellow card for complaining to referee Lewis Hogarth in the aftermath of Rangers’ penalty award.

“I said to him, you are giving them two goals,” she said. “I understand it from their point of view; they can’t see everything, but I was frustrated. It was outside of the box and the first goal was offside.

“Credit to the girls. They came from 2-0 behind, I cannot be too unhappy.”

Rangers manager Jo Potter: “It was a comedy of errors for the first one [goal]. It's on us. You have to manage those moments better.

"We are extremely disappointed not to take three points today. I don't have an opinion on any referee decisions. You're in the Old Firm, you have to manage games but a lot of decisions that I'm scratching my head with."
