Ramsdale maddens Tottenham as Mudryk watches with regret in Arsenal’s derby winners and losers

Winners

Aaron Ramsdale

Arsenal’s team has been filled with star performances this season but - being honest - one player who has not been earning the same level of praise and plaudits has been Aaron Ramsdale. Not through poor games, but just with his side so dominant he has been called upon far less.

That changed in the second half of the North London Derby as Spurs launched an onslaught on Arsenal to try and find a goal back in the clash. Strikes from Ryan Sessegnon, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min came, but the England international remained strong.

When an opponent finds their way through this stubborn Arsenal side the club clearly have an 11th defender ready and waiting to deal with whatever comes his way. He could be key in the second half of the season.

Martin Odegaard

The Premier League Player of the Month winner for November-December has been a critical figure for Arsenal this season. However, doubters still questioned whether the Norwegian would turn up in the biggest moments for the Gunners.

Well, it is fair to say that Martin Odegaard has turned up in the biggest of them all with his winning goal ending a nine-year drought without a win at Tottenham's home ground. Beyond his strike, he was his typical silky self and worthy of being in the conversation for player of the match once again.

Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta comes out of yet another game facing questions on his side’s resilience to take advantage of his rivals Manchester City dropping points. His side, unchanged from the draw with Newcastle, were once again dominant and played in the exact way he expects from those he selects.

The next test is the in-from Manchester United, so far the only side to beat Arsenal in the Premier League this season. Erik ten Hag will arrive in north London with a wall of noise facing him as the Gunners look to pick up a huge win and then watch their north London rivals face Manchester City.

Losers

Mykhailo Mudryk

“This is what you could have won?” A somewhat appropriate way of looking at the Ukrainian international.

Mykhailo Mudryk made the decision to make the switch to Chelsea despite weeks of public hints that his desire was to move to Arsenal. The Blues struggled to a 1-0 home win over Crystal Palace to move them from 10th to… 10th.

Mudryk will aim to help his new team get back into the European places, sitting 10 points off fourth having played a game more than Manchester United. Arsenal, meanwhile, push on for the title and will hope to end the transfer window with an alternative who can propel them toward it.

Manchester City

An aggravated Pep Guardiola has consistently talked up Arsenal and now faces playing his title rivals three times having drawn the Gunners in the FA Cup fourth round. It will be a game that is expected to be significantly different from the league clash but could still provide a big insight into how both clubs compare.

Manchester City’s dropped three points have allowed Arsenal to reopen a gap and the biggest of the season so far at eight. The irony now is they now play Tottenham who are somewhat of a bogey team for the Citizens and for once the Gunners might be hoping for their north London rivals to get something in their next game.

Player safety

Aaron Ramsdale was attacked by a Tottenham Hotspur fan after the game. The FA and Spurs have condemned the action, but tough consequences need to be swiftly dished out.

It stemmed from Richarlison taking the opportunity to react to the keeper kissing his Arsenal badge by putting his hands in the face of the goalkeeper. Arsenal have received two FA charges for failing to control their players in the space of a week and arguably Spurs on several occasions surrounded referee Craig Pawson and Richarlison's action should also be looked into.
