Rams won’t carry over much cap space from last year into 2025

The Los Angeles Rams were aggressive in their roster-building process last year, spending more than usual in free agency. As a result, they won’t have much cap space carryover from 2024 to the upcoming offseason.

Over The Cap has official salary cap carryover numbers for each team in the NFL entering 2025 and the Rams were near the bottom of the list. According to Over The Cap, the Rams will only carry over $2.75 million from last year, the seventh-lowest amount of any team.

For comparison, the 49ers lead the NFL with $50.1 million in carryover from last year, with the average being $11.58 million.

As of now, the Rams are projected to have $38.3 million in cap space this year, which is right around the middle of all teams (15th). That’s plenty of money to sign key free agents at positions of need, as well as a potential extension for Matthew Stafford to keep him in L.A.

The good news is they don’t have much dead money on the books this year. Aaron Donald will still count $9.67 million against the cap following his retirement last offseason. Joe Noteboom’s contract will void and have a $10 million cap hit, so that will essentially be dead money.

Other than that, all of the Rams’ other cap commitments are to players on the team.
