Rams will put Kyren Williams on IR but don’t plan to do the same with Brian Allen

The Rams got off to a rough start on the injury front in Week 1, losing both Kyren Williams and Brian Allen. Williams suffered an ankle injury that will cause him to miss 6-8 weeks, an unfortunate situation for the rookie running back.

Allen will miss 2-4 weeks after undergoing a knee procedure, leaving the Rams without their starting center for a little while.

Sean McVay shared an update on both players during the “Coach McVay Show” on Monday, saying the team will place Williams on injured reserve but doesn’t plan to do the same with Allen. Any player who is placed on IR is forced to miss at least four games, so it’s a good sign the Rams expect Allen to be back within four weeks.

“You know you’re gonna put Kyren Williams on IR, so that’ll free up a spot,” McVay said. “With Brian, don’t expect that to be something that’ll be quite that long-term where you want to eliminate his ability to be available for four weeks. Right now, we’re in the early processes and parts of kind of getting the game plan together from a personnel standpoint, both offensively and defensively with how we want to match up with the Falcons.”

Coleman Shelton will be the team’s starting center this week against the Falcons, which will cause Tremayne Anchrum Jr. to slide into the right guard spot. Jake Funk will also help replace Williams as the No. 3 back.

McVay said the team will always look in-house for replacements first before exploring outside options, but he wasn’t completely against adding depth if needed.
