Rams Trade RB Cam Akers to Vikings, per Report

The Rams are trading running back Cam Akers to the Vikings, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Minnesota and Los Angeles will swap 2026 draft picks as part of the deal.

Akers was a healthy inactive on Sunday vs. the 49ers after getting 22 rushing attempts in Los Angeles’s Week 1 win against Seattle. On Tuesday, coach Sean McVay said the team was working towards finding a trade partner for Akers.

A fourth-year pro, Akers was a key part of the Rams 2021 Super Bowl run, rushing for 172 yards in three playoff games after missing most of the season due to a torn Achilles. Last year, the veteran had a career-high 786 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games.

Minnesota adds Akers to a running back room that already includes Alexander Mattison, Ty Chandler and Myles Gaskin, as the team moves forward without Dalvin Cook for the first time since 2016. Through two games, the Vikings have a league-worst 69 rushing yards despite amassing 674 passing yards, which ranks second in the league.

After the trade, the Rams will lean on Kyren Williams to be their primary running back, with Ronnie Rivers as the backup. Williams is in his second year and already has four total touchdowns through two games.
