Rams to Sign Veteran QB Carson Wentz, per Report

The Rams are signing veteran quarterback Carson Wentz, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

Wentz hasn’t played in the NFL this season after he started at least seven games for three different teams in each of the last seven seasons. For the Commanders last year, Wentz threw for 1,755 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions while accumulating a 2-5 record.

After Wentz hit free agency in the offseason, no team decided to sign the veteran despite his willingness to continue playing.

The signing may mean that Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford’s thumb injury could require the veteran to miss additional games. Stafford did not play vs. the Packers on Sunday after injuring his thumb vs. the Cowboys the week before, with backup quarterback Brett Rypien getting the start instead.

To make room for Wentz, the Rams waived Rypien and released Dresser Winn, who served as the No. 2 quarterback on Sunday, from their practice squad. That means that Stafford and Wentz are now the only two quarterbacks on the Rams roster.
