Rams take over 1st place in NFC West with help of Packers

There’s a new team at the top of the NFC West standings. The Los Angeles Rams, who were 1-4 after five games, are now leading the division with only three weeks to go.

The Rams beat the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night, 12-6, improving their record to 8-6. The Green Bay Packers then delivered Los Angeles a huge assist by beating the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, 30-13.

The loss dropped the Seahawks to 8-6 and because the Rams already beat them earlier this season, they own the head-to-head tiebreaker over Seattle. That means with three weeks to go, the Rams are in complete control of the division.

If they win out, they’re the NFC West champions.

As of now, the Rams are the No. 4 seed in the conference, with the Buccaneers being the third seed thanks a tiebreaker over the Rams.

The pivotal game that could decide the division is in Week 18 when the Rams host the Seahawks at SoFi Stadium. If Seattle wins that game and finishes in a tie with the Rams, the tiebreaker could come down to strength of victory.

The Rams’ final three games are on the road against the Jets and at home against the Cardinals and Seahawks, which are all winnable games.

Here are the updated standings after Week 15.

  1. Rams: 8-6
  2. Seahawks: 8-6
  3. Cardinals: 7-7
  4. 49ers: 6-8
