Rams rookie Kyren Williams broke his foot, expected to return early in training camp

It’s only June, but the Los Angeles Rams’ running back room is already dealing with a little bit of adversity. Darrell Henderson Jr. missed some time during OTAs with a soft-tissue injury, and on Tuesday, Sean McVay shared more bad news.

He told reporters that rookie running back Kyren Williams broke his foot in practice last week and is expected to be out until the early part of training camp in jury. Williams already underwent surgery, so he’ll be rehabbing his foot from now until he’s able to get back on the field in camp.

“He got surgery, everything went really well,” McVay said. “And we expect him to be back at some point in the earlier parts of training camp. But he’s gonna attack the rehab the right way and it’s an unfortunate setback and he’s gonna attack his rehab the right way and be back sooner than later.”

Williams was drafted by the Rams in the fifth round this year after the team traded up to select him No. 164 overall. He’s expected to contribute as the third back in the rotation behind Cam Akers and Henderson, but he’ll also have to hold off Xavier Jones, Jake Funk and Raymond Calais.

This injury will make that job even tougher, but Williams is a talented player who might be the Rams’ best pass protector in the backfield.
