After the Rams started the season 3-5, their playoff odds sat at 18%. That number dropped even further after their ugly Week 9 loss to the Packers at Lambeau Field.
It’s been a long climb back up the mountain, but the Rams are steadily improving their chances of playing after the regular season. That idea became even more likely after their 30-22 win over the Saints on Thursday night, their fifth victory in the last six weeks.
According to the New York Times, the Rams improved their playoff chances from 48% to 72% by beating the Saints. They remain in control of their own destiny, with wins in the next two weeks punching their ticket to the playoffs.
There are still a bunch of games to be played this weekend that can impact the Rams’ playoff odds, but none will have as big an impact as Thursday’s win did.
For example, if the Seahawks beat the Titans, the Rams’ odds drop to 65%. If the Vikings also pull off an upset against the Lions, the Rams’ odds drop to 55%. However, if the Titans and Lions both win, the Rams will have an 80% chance of reaching the postseason.
All Los Angeles is focused on is the final two games of the season, knowing two wins will get them into the playoffs. However, it’s hard not to look around the rest of the NFC and start playing out scenarios to see which teams might get a wild-card berth.
