The Los Angeles Rams planned to be without Jalen Ramsey at the start of training camp after he underwent offseason shoulder surgery, but they’ve since pivoted. After initially expecting to place him on the PUP list, they’ve decided not to go that route.
Sean McVay told reporters Sunday that doctors cleared Ramsey for limited activities, which allows him to participate in walk-throughs and other “above-the-neck” drills. That’s an encouraging sign for the All-Pro cornerback as he prepares for the start of the regular season.
“We ended up not putting Ramsey on the PUP as a result of doctors cleared him in a limited fashion that enables him to participate in a lot of the jog throughs — the above the neck stuff, and to be able to have him out here with his teammates with all the different things that we ask of him,” McVay said, via ProFootballTalk. “He felt good about that. We felt good about that. So, I think that’s what’s best for our football team. That’s why we kind of pivoted in that direction.”
The Rams did place three other players on the PUP list to begin camp, however. Quentin Lake, Warren Jackson and Kyren Williams are all currently sidelined with injuries.
Lake is dealing with a knee issue, McVay said, and Williams is still recovering from a broken foot he suffered in spring practices. Williams is still a few weeks away from being a full participant but the expectation is that he’ll be ready for Week 1, and the Rams are targeting their joint practices with the Bengals for Williams’ return.
Sean McVay said rookie RB Kyren Williams (broken foot) is “a few weeks away” from being able to return as full-speed participant, but doesn’t expect the injury impact Williams’ availability for regular season. McVay said Bengals practice week is realistic timetable to shoot for.
