Matthew Stafford has taken a beating throughout his NFL career but it’s been a long time since someone took him to the ground for a sack – nearly a month, in fact.
The Los Angeles Rams allowed zero sacks for the third consecutive game on Sunday, a streak Stafford has never enjoyed as a pro quarterback. It’s a streak that’s only been exceeded one time in Rams history, too.
According to Rams PR, Los Angeles’ three-game streak without allowing a sack is the second-longest in franchise history. It tied a three-game stretch from 1971, only one game shy of the team record of four games.
The Rams went four straight games without allowing a sack at the end of the 2012 season and into the 2013 season, and also in 1973. If the Rams extend it to four games, it’ll be the 10th-longest single-season streak without allowing a sack in NFL history, according to Stathead.
Stafford has been kept incredibly clean in the last three weeks, barely getting touched. The Rams allowed only one QB hit on Sunday against the Jets after giving up just five against the 49ers in Week 15 and three against the Bills the week prior.
For a veteran quarterback who’s not the most mobile, that’s huge and it’s a big reason the Rams are having the success that they’ve enjoyed. Alaric Jackson, Steve Avila, Beaux Limmer, Kevin Dotson and Rob Havenstein all deserve a lot of credit for their play as of late.
