Even after losing Austin Corbett in free agency, guard isn’t a major position of need for the Los Angeles Rams this offseason. It wouldn’t hurt to add some depth at that spot, but they re-signed Coleman Shelton and also have Bobby Evans and Tremayne Anchrum, who have been with the Rams for multiple years and could be ready to finally step into a starting role.
If they get the chance to add a starting-caliber player in Round 3 of the draft, they might struggle to pass that up. In Touchdown Wire’s latest three-round mock, Mark Schofield has the Rams drafting Oklahoma guard Marquis Hayes at No. 104 overall.
Hayes is a powerful guard with great size at 6-foot-5 and 318 pounds. He needs refining with his technique, which is why he’s projected to be a Day 2 or 3 pick, but there’s plenty to work with in his game.
With a really good offensive line coach like Kevin Carberry, Hayes would land in a great spot if drafted by the Rams. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he were to develop into a Day 1 starter with Los Angeles, if drafted by Les Snead and the Rams.
