Sean McVay’s coaching staff is going to have some new faces on it this year, with the first known change coming at offensive coordinator. Liam Coen left for Kentucky again, leaving a void at a key spot on McVay’s staff.
He may not take long to fill it, though.
According to Mike Garafolo, former Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur is expected to land with the Rams. Garafolo didn’t specify which role he would fill, but with Coen gone, it would seem logical that LaFleur would take over as the offensive coordinator.
“There will be many changes on his staff,” Garafolo said. “Liam Coen, who was the offensive coordinator, he left for Kentucky so that role is open. Possible that Mike LaFleur, just let go by the Jets to pursue other opportunities, that could be the opportunity for him. He’s expected to land on McVay’s staff.”
The #Jets allowed Mike LaFleur as OC to explore other opportunities and heading to the #Rams in the same role is foremost among those potential opportunities he could snag soon. https://t.co/QGrdJGPoNj

LaFleur was the Jets’ offensive coordinator for the last two years after being the 49ers’ passing game coordinator from 2017-2020. He also held the role of wide receivers coach in San Francisco from 2017-2018.
McVay likely knows LaFleur from his relationship with his brother, Matt LaFleur, the Packers’ head coach and former Rams offensive coordinator, though McVay and Mike have never crossed paths on the same coaching staff.
