It’s that time of year again: poaching season.
Sean McVay is no stranger to coaches on his staff getting promotions with other teams, whether it’s to become a coordinator, a positional coach or head coach. This year is no different.
Though the departures haven’t come in bunches as they have in recent years, McVay is still in danger of losing several coaches this offseason. We’ll be tracking all of their reported interviews this offseason, many of which have already taken place.
Aubrey Pleasant, assistant head coach/pass game coordinator
- Jaguars DC
- Bears DC (position filled)
Pleasant interviewed with both the Jaguars and Bears, but Jacksonville is the only available opening now after Chicago hired Dennis Allen as its defensive coordinator.
If Pleasant doesn’t leave this offseason, he’s certainly someone to watch next year after spending another season on McVay’s staff.
Nick Caley, TEs coach/pass game coordinator
Caley is one of the top offensive coordinator candidates out there right now, landing interviews with the Buccaneers and Texans. He’s also viewed as the favorite to be the Jets’ next offensive coordinator, but he hasn’t had an interview with them yet.
Nate Scheelhaase, offensive assistant/pass game specialist
Scheelhaase may not get an offensive coordinator job this offseason, being just 34 years old and having completed his first season on an NFL staff, but he’s a rising coach. With his ties to McVay and his background as a former college quarterback, he’s someone who could get a promotion elsewhere sooner rather than later.
Dave Ragone, QBs coach
Ragone was previously the Falcons’ offensive coordinator before joining the Rams last year and he could get another shot to be an OC in the near future. Ragone, 45, played quarterback in the NFL, including one stint with the Rams.
John Streicher, game management coordinator
Streicher has officially left the Rams to become the Patriots’ VP of football operations and strategy under Mike Vrabel, who he worked with during their time in Tennessee. “Stretch” was a vital piece of McVay’s staff last season, helping with game management and timeout usage.
AC Carter, assistant defensive line coach
The Panthers are expected to hire Carter as their outside linebackers coach, prying him away from the Rams after two seasons in Los Angeles.
