Rams are hopeful Cooper Kupp can return from IR in Week 5

The Los Angeles Rams made the difficult decision to put Cooper Kupp on injured reserve last week, which guaranteed he would miss at least the first four games of the season. While there’s no definitive timetable for Kupp’s return right now, Sean McVay did provide somewhat of an update before practice on Friday.

McVay said the Rams are “hopeful” that Kupp can be activated for Week 5 when he’s first eligible to return, but he doesn’t know for sure when the receiver will be back.

“We’re hopeful about that. I want to be careful to say but the reason we put him on IR was so that you know if it’s going to be those four weeks that he’s mandated to miss, then we can take him off the IR and be available for that fifth week,” McVay said. “That was the reason we made that decision last week just because you don’t really know what’s going to come up. It doesn’t really put a timetable on rushing him back, allowing him to be able to go through a thorough process.

“I want to be careful to put the cart before the horse, as they say, but I’m hopeful about that.”

Kupp first injured his hamstring in early August and missed three weeks of practice after that. When he returned, he suffered a setback in late August and has been sidelined ever since.

In the meantime, Puka Nacua, Tutu Atwell and Van Jefferson will continue to get more reps.
