Rams are converting first downs at an impressive rate through 2 weeks

The Los Angeles Rams fell to 1-1 after losing 30-23 to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, but there are still positives to take from the first two weeks of the season. With the two Monday night games still yet to be played, the Rams are tied with the Miami Dolphins for the highest first-down conversion rate through Week 2.

On first downs, the Rams are beginning a new set of downs 21% of the time, which is tied for the 13th-best mark in the NFL. Meanwhile, on second down, the Rams are moving the sticks at a 50% rate thus far. Third downs are where the Rams have noticeably excelled, converting a first down 77% of the time, putting them only behind the Dolphins in that category.

After defeating the Seattle Seahawks 30-13 in Week 1, the Rams put up a strong fight against the 49ers in the Week 2 home loss. Matthew Stafford and the offense continued to move the ball with consistency despite Cooper Kupp remaining sidelined because of his hamstring injury.

Besides the emergence of Kyren Williams, Puka Nacua, and Tutu Atwell, along with the impressive play of the offensive line, the Rams are having success on offense because they’re moving the chains so often.

Many were skeptical that Sean McVay and the Rams would field a competitive offense in 2023 because of the roster turnover this offseason. While there are still plenty of games left to be played, it’s great to see the Rams showing consistency on the offensive side of the ball.
