The Rams have sat out free agency up to this point, choosing not to pursue any unrestricted free agents all offseason. But on Tuesday, they agreed to terms with their first free agent of 2023: former Bucs wide receiver Tyler Johnson.
Johnson has been in the NFL since he was a fifth-round pick by the Buccaneers in 2020, spending two years with Tampa Bay before playing part of last season with the Texans. In two years with the Bucs, Johnson caught 48 passes for 529 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Johnson was cut by the Bucs last summer and claimed by the Texans off waivers, but he landed back with the Bucs on their practice squad in October. The Raiders signed him to a reserve/futures contract this offseason but he was again released, thus opening the door for him to land with the Rams now.
Johnson is 6-foot-1 and put up big numbers in his final two seasons at Minnesota, catching 78 passes for 1,169 yards as a junior in 2018 and 86 passes for 1,318 yards in 2019.
