The holy month of Ramadan is well and truly underway, marking the start of an important month of fasting and spiritual reflection.
Ramadan takes place from mid-May to mid-June, although the exact dates depend on the sighting of the moon.
This year, the moon was seen on Sunday night meaning that fasting begins on Monday 6 May.
Prayer is also an integral part of Ramadan and Muslims will typically carry out five daily prayers - which they are also obliged to perform throughout the year.
