Manchester United's interim manager Ralf Rangnick has been warned he cannot 'babysit' Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford.
The comments by former Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood were made in response to his reaction to being substituted at Brentford on Wednesday night.
Ronaldo was replaced by Harry Maguire on the 70th minute mark and he chucked his coat to the ground as he made his way to the bench.
Re-watching the moment on Sky Sports' Gillette Soccer Saturday, Sherwood said: "He made his intentions known last night and it was not a good look.
"I was disappointed when I saw him come off.
"Everyone is disappointed when they come off but you should leave it at that and sit down, you should not go and chuck your toys out of the pram.
"He (Ronaldo) is meant to lead by example which I think he does when he is on the pitch but I didn't like that from Rangnick (speaking to Ronaldo). Leave him alone. Let him stew on it.
"Next time Greenwood comes off or Rashford, expect them to throw their toys out of the pram as well and give them the same treatment.
"Treat everyone the same, we know this guy is special, we know he is, but you have got to draw a line.
"You cannot babysit him just let him get on with it."
Ronaldo returned to the Manchester United starting XI this afternoon for the visit of West Ham and Sherwood did believe that it was the correct decision.
"Marcus Rashford will not be happy about it," he added.
"For me, I would choose the team that is best equipped to win the football match and I think that despite the baggage you have to pick Ronaldo."
