Ralf Rangnick suggests Man Utd stars ignored his game plan for 20 minutes against Burnley

Ralf Rangnick is frustrated his Manchester United players didn't follow his game plan for the full 90 minutes against Burnley.

The Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw at Turfmoor as Jay Rodriguez cancelled out Paul Pogba's opener.

There have been some teething issues for United as they adapt to the German's style of football and the start of the second half against Sean Dyche's men was a prime example of those struggles.

Rangnick was pleased with their dominant first half and how they ended the game in what was "very close" to his game plan, but the interim boss was disappointed they couldn't execute it over the whole match.

He told Man United's official website : "How we played in the first half or 70 minutes at Burnley was very, very close to the game-plan that we spoke about and now it's about rewarding ourselves and getting the results that we deserve.

Are Manchester united coming around to Ralf Rangnick's style of play? Comment below

"I think the players have realised that there has been a good development in the last couple of weeks, both in and out of possession. They realised that we controlled the game but, then again, if we concede a goal, against Boro it was after 65-70 minutes, we should just stick to the game-plan. Not, all of a sudden, lose shape or lose composure.

"This was the most harmful part of it. We just didn't stick to that game-plan.

"All of a sudden, we didn't have the same positioning on the pitch, our two 8s were too far outside, this is what we spoke about yesterday and the day before, when we analysed the Burnley game."

United were unlucky not to go in at the break two goals to the good after they had a goal disallowed for a foul by Pogba in the build-up to a Burnley own goal.

Raphael Varane also had a header ruled out but Harry Maguire was clearly offside as the free-kick was swung in before the defender blocked a Burnley player.

But Rangnick insists no matter what the scoreline is, they need to keep their shape at all times as they lost control of the game at the start of the second half.

He added: "Hopefully, when we have the same amount of opportunities, we score more than one goal, this has to be more effective.

"But we have to be aware of why we were so dominant. We have to stick to that, all of a sudden, not lose structure, lose shape, it was obvious for some 15-20 minutes against Burnley. It got better at the end of the game, and we had more control, but in those 15 minutes, we lost that shape."
