Ralf Rangnick sends Liverpool warning to Erik ten Hag as Jamie Carragher responds to Paul Pogba

Here are your Liverpool evening headlines for Saturday, April 23.

Ralf Rangnick sends Liverpool warning to Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag has been warned by Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick that this season could be the harsh reality for the club going forward after being heavily beaten 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Ajax manager Ten Hag has just been unveiled as the new man in charge for next season at Old Trafford as United remain on course for their worst ever campaign in the Premier League era. The newly-appointed boss has a huge rebuild job on his hands.

Rangnick believes losses like the two given to United by bitter rivals Liverpool - 5-0 at Old Trafford and 4-0 at Anfield - make Ten Hag's job easier with all of the side's problems exposed this season by the heavy defeats.

“We have to face the current situation,” said Rangnick, ahead of United's clash at top-four rivals Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime. "We lost on aggregate against Liverpool 9-0, we lost against Manchester City 6-1 on aggregate. The team even lost against Watford 4-1 and a team like Everton, who were not full of confidence, 1-0. This is just the reality, the sad reality. It also makes sense to have a sense of reality.

"We have to acknowledge this reality and this will also help Erik. We spoke about other clubs being in a similar position as United five or six years ago. So if the right lessons are being learned from what's happened this season, this could be one of the good things from what we’re going through right now.”

Jamie Carragher sends brutal message to Paul Pogba

Jamie Carragher has taken a cynical swipe at Paul Pogba after the Manchester United midfielder posted a personal message on Twitter during his team's 3-1 Premier League defeat at Arsenal on Saturday.

Pogba hobbled off the pitch at Anfield on Tuesday after just the first 10 minutes of Liverpool's crushing 4-0 win against the Red Devils.

United boss Ralf Rangnick has indicated that Pogba, who is out of contract at the end of the season, could possibly miss the rest of the campaign, but as his team-mates faced fellow Champions League qualification-chasers Arsenal, the 29-year-old shared an update with followers on Twitter.

He tweeted: "Absolutely gutted to not be able to help the team in today's game. I will work even harder to come back stronger and hopefully before the end of the season. It's not over. Thank you all for your support, United we would stand!"

The social media post was then retweeted by former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Carragher, who cheekily wrote: "Can you tweet something like……"

Carragher's comment is a reference to a previous tweet from former Everton player Victor Anichebe who, while playing for Sunderland, appeared to have sent a message to his PR team with instructions to write a tweet on his behalf, only for the full message, including instructions, to be posted publicly from his own Twitter account.
