Ralf Rangnick responds to Rio Ferdinand's demand to "shut down" Anthony Martial

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick claims he's resolved his dispute with forward Anthony Martial.

It comes after Rio Ferdinand urged Rangnick to "shut down" Martial after the Frenchman responded to comments about him refusing to play against Aston Villa last Saturday.

"I had a conversation with him [Martial] on Sunday and said how I saw the whole situation," Rangnick told reporters on Tuesday morning.

"He didn't train yesterday and the day before yesterday. He will probably train today and then I will take the decision if he is nominated or not and then take the decision."

Rangnick's spat with Martial, who wants to leave United in January, became public on Saturday evening following the team's 2-2 Premier League draw with Villa.

"He didn't want to be in the squad," claimed the German. "He would have been in the squad normally, but he didn't want to. That is the reason."

Using Instagram, Martial quickly responded to Rangnick's comments. "I will never refuse to play a match for Man United," he wrote.

"I’ve been here for seven years and I have never disrespected and will never disrespect the club and the fans."

The row was one of the biggest talking points in the Premier League last weekend and Ferdinand was eager to see it put to bed.

"That situation there is a perfect example for the hierarchy of that football club," the ex-captain told his Vibe with Five YouTube channel.

"If Martial isn’t telling the truth there – and I’m not casting any dispersions – but if he’s not telling the truth when he says he’s never refused to play or disrespected the club, if he did refuse then someone at that football club needs to come out and absolutely put this to bed.

"They need to give pure clarity, put a line in the sand, put a flag down and say, 'This is us and this is where we’re at.'

"At the moment, Rangnick has come out with what he said and Martial responded and basically said the manager is lying.

"Someone better come out today or tomorrow and say something. You can’t have a player coming out and belittling what you say. No chance.

"He needs to get shut down if it’s true. If Rangnick is right, there’s no way any player should be allowed to speak like that.

"I don’t understand it. Man Utd can’t allow players to talk like that. There’s a truth and a false in this situation and I want to know."

In regards to his future, Martial is reportedly not interested in joining another Premier League team in January.

United are believed to want a loan fee and the player's wages covered in full, with Juventus, Barcelona and Sevilla leading the race for his signature.

Sevilla have already had a bid rejected for Martial, while Juventus are reportedly just considering a move at this stage.
