Ralf Rangnick reacts to dream Austria debut following Manchester United exit

Ralf Rangnick says he is 'very satisfied' with his start to life as Austria manager following their 3-0 thrashing of Croatia on Friday night.

The 63-year-old enjoyed a dream debut as an international manager as he oversaw a comprehensive away victory in their Nations League opener.

Ralf Rangnick experienced a turbulent time during his reign as Manchester United manager, but appears to have quickly put it behind him with an immediate impact in his new role.

Goals from Marko Arnautovic, Michael Gregoritsch and Marcel Sabitzer earned a comfortable win as Austria brushed aside the 2018 World Cup finalists in Osijek.

"We had problems in the first 25 minutes, but getting the lead just before the break did us good," Rangnick said after the win. "In the second half we played really well and scored two wonderful goals.

"We could even have scored more. I am very satisfied."

Speaking after the win, former Stoke and West Ham forward Arnautovic praised Rangnick for bringing so much energy to the side during his first week in charge.

"The players were full of energy," he said. "Croatia are an excellent team, but we played a great match. We turned our chances to goals and deserved this win. We want to return to the top."

Last weekend, United confirmed that Rangnick would not be staying on in a planned consultancy role at the club following his period as interim manager.

The German coach had been offered the chance to stay on in a two-year consultancy role in order to offer his expertise as they went forward under new manager Erik ten Hag.

However, it was mutually agreed that his commitments with the Austrian national side were too much to continue with the planned club role.
