Ralf Rangnick makes promise to new manager as future Man Utd role finally becomes clear

Ralf Rangnick claims he is ready to brief the new Manchester United manager - whoever that may prove to be.

The 63-year-old, who was named as interim boss at the end of last year, is due to take a step back from the dugout at the end of the season and has already signed a contract to remain at Old Trafford as an advisor.

Erik ten Hag is the overwhelming favourite to be named the next permanent manager, having impressed United chiefs with his plan for the future during interviews earlier this month. Negotiations are ongoing between the Red Devils, Ten Hag and his current club Ajax, although there is an expectation a deal will be completed before the end of the season.

Rangnick has confirmed that he is being kept abreast of the latest in terms of the managerial chase, despite not having a direct role in the hiring process himself. The German tactician has a lengthy resume working behind the scenes at European clubs and is braced for talks with the new manager, having already made his feelings known to the powers at be at the struggling Premier League giants.

“I have already done this, not to any managers, but inside the club,” said Rangnick. “I have told them how I see the current squad and what needs to happen in my opinion.

“I spoke regularly with board members and they know what I think needs to happen in the summer. If he [the next manager] is interested and willing to speak about that and interested in my opinion I will see what happens.”

On his own future, Rangnick revealed: “We have agreed upon a contract as an advisor. I know all of the managers with whom the club have so far spoken to are top managers and top coaches - if this includes Erik ten Hag, it is also true with him.

“I know which coaches they have spoken with so far and that’s why I can say that all of the coaches they have spoken to are top coaches.

But for now, Rangnick’s focus remains laser focused on Everton and Goodison Park as United head to Merseyside in desperate need of a victory. A win for the visitors in the early kick-off could see them temporarily leapfrog West Ham and Arsenal - although they will have played two games more than the Gunners

“That’s all that I can say at this stage, for me, it is all about preparing for the team for tomorrow’s game and hopefully three points. Rangnick added: “For tomorrow, it's definitely the most important part. Character, energy and commitment, winning the game in the atmosphere that will be probably pretty similar to the one at Leeds.

“We're all aware of the importance of the game for both sides. For me, game plan and tactics is one thing for tomorrow, but probably the most important thing is mentality and attitude."
